Winter Activity Festival 2018

waf poster letter picJohnson Township Winter Activity Festival – Sunday, February 11, 1-4:30pm at the Johnson Community Centre

Not so much a traditional winter carnival, the Winter Activity Festival offers families an opportunity to engage in fun winter-time physical activities that encourages Winter-time Play in the great Canadian outdoors. The Winter Activity Festival was first held in 2008 as part of an Ontario Health Ministry initiative to increase healthy activity opportunities for youth. This year the event dovetails with the current Healthy Kids Community Challenge theme “Power Off and Play“.

This year the Shamrock Figure Skaters perform in the arena at 1pm. From 1:30 to 3pm we have outdoor activities: Bum slides (snow permitting), SnoGolf, 2×4 ski races, log sawing and nailing, and Sno Ultimate. Inside the arena from 3:00pm to 4:30 there is public skating, skating races by age group, family broomball, and all-ages shinny. The 50+ club will be upstairs for those wanting to play a game of cards or warm up with a game of shuffleboard. The canteen will be open all day with a special menu, including $1 Smoothies, a healthy snack initiative supported by Johnson Township Recreation, Healthy Kids Community Challenge North Channel, and Canteen Operator Cheryl Larrett. The day finishes with draws for participation…if you participate you could win cool prizes from area businesses!

This year, the Winter Activity Festival will also feature exhibits in the JTCC Hall (upstairs in arena) of Winter Memories and Community Families. Share your memorabilia and pictures as well as your family tree and photos for a one-of-a-kind exhibit.
