Dr. Harold S. Trefry Memorial Senior’s Centre
The Dr. Harold S. Trefry Memorial Senior’s Centre is located at 1209 Catherine Street in Richards Landing on St. Joseph Island. They seek to provide services to seniors and persons with disabilities which will assist them to remain in their homes and allow them to maintain their dignity. The Centre offers the services to individuals from the municipalities of MacDonald Meredith & Aberdeen Additional, Laird Township, Tarbutt & Tarbutt Additional, Johnson Township, Village of Hilton Beach, Township of Hilton, Township of Jocelyn and The Corporation of the Township of St. Joseph. The Centre offers many services such as Meals on Wheels, providing transportation for appointments, shopping etc., Congregate Dining, A Day Out!, Telephone Reassurance & Friendly Visiting, Home Maintenance, Foot Care, and LifeLabs Mobile.
Programs offered
Meals on Wheels, which operates three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, & Friday) delivers meals to those over 65 or the disabled. They deliver hot meals that are sure to strengthen the body and warm the heart. The transportation that is provided for medical appointments or grocery shopping, are for those aged 65+ or temporarily/permanently disabled.
The Congregate Dining program is a well-attended function that is held on the last Tuesday of each month at the Royal Canadian Legion in Richards Landing. The program begins at 11:30 am, with a family-style lunch held at 12:30pm.
The Day Out! program offers respite for a spouse or caregiver that offers clients the opportunity to stay informed, learn or teach new skills, establish friendships, and to stay active. The telephone reassurance & friendly visiting has volunteers who will come and visit periodically or will call daily to ensure you are okay.
The Home Maintenance Program is a subsidized program that is offered to assist seniors and disabled persons in maintaining their residences. The maintenance will also help with house cleaning, snow removal, and yard work. The foot care is a service that the centre has where a RPN is brought in twice a month for any foot care needs.
The LifeLabs Mobile Service is brought to the centre every Wednesday at 9am.
